The answer is no.
Shower floor floor slopes code.
Curbless shower with linear drain on code requirements.
The minimum standard required for wet areas in residential buildings is contained in the building code of australia bca and as3740 waterproofing of wet areas in residential buildings.
I am planning a bathroom reno that will have a curbless walk in shower 36 x 72 using the usg durock infinity drain shower system.
Two common methods are used to waterproof showers.
Shower floors slope.
I bought a totally rehabbed home a few months ago with a huge walk in shower.
To efficiently drain the recommended minimum slope for a shower floor is about 4 percent or a 1 2 inch drop per every 12 inches from the shower walls to the drain.
Tiling in shower recesses.
In traditional tile shower.
The usg floorboards are pre sloped 1 4 per foot and i ll be draining towards a 72 linear drain along the 72 wall i e.
If we can slope enough floor space on a bath floor so that the water from a shower runs toward a drain do we need a curb.
The issue that we had is that according to the ipc international plumbing code there had to be a dam outside the shower area in order to contain the water.
Both methods require that the floor be sloped 1 4 to 1 2 per foot from perimeters to a drain.
Although not generally required by code it may be appropriate to waterproof areas adjacent to curbless showers.
There will be a 0 75 drop.
So slope the floor up from the drain at a minimum of 1 4 per foot or as much as 1 2 per foot then use the 1 2 threshold just before your shower door or other shower opening to get to the 2 above the drain required by plumbing code.
This includes tiling and gradients of bathroom floors including shower recesses.
There is a single drain at the south end but the floor peaks in the middle so half the floor slopes to the drain in the south end but the floor to the north of the middle slopes to the end where there s no drain and water thus pools.
