A sink stopper with a push pull rod control at the faucet is a great modern convenience.

Remove the old seal and slip on a new one if needed.
Inspect the rubber seal on the bottom of the stopper head.
The lever hooks onto the stopper through a hole or hook on the bottom of a long plastic flange that s attached to the stopper.

Lift the stopper out of the drain.
Simply grip the stopper body and pull it out of the drain along with the hinged rocker arm.

If the seal is cracked or brittle the stopper should be replaced.
If it s still in good condition you can reuse it.

Reinstall the stopper and rocker arm.
Move the linkage up or down to a different hole to adjust the stopper movement.
It moves the stopper in the opposite direction to the lift rod.
Start with the stopper on the clicker mechanism and make sure it is tightened down all the way.

Remove the clip that holds the link in place by squeezing the clip ends together.

A seal made with plumber s putty may fail down the road if the putty becomes brittle and it cracks apart allowing water to pass through the seal.
Fix a sink stopper.
